WTS TO THE WORLD

WETALKSOUND: WTS TO THE WORLD!

WTS TO THE WORLD, that’s something that’s thrown around a lot with the team. When someone has a new project out, or when the team is working on an idea, the common slogan is WTS TO THE WORLD. WTS, is We Talk Sound, it is the greatest team of people you’ll ever know. What started innocuously as a group of music lovers coming together to share their passion for music has grown into a community of people teeming with passion, displaying to the world what is possible when people are determined.

WTS is 2. Born out of the idea Dolapo Amusat had, while still at the University of Ibadan, with a couple of friends. Now WTS has over 600 members from all over the world, yes you read that right. The group exists as an online community. It started first with Whatsapp and when that couldn’t sustain the growth anymore, the group was transplanted to Telegram. While existing as an online group, there are occasional meet-ups and get-togethers, where online personalities come alive and the bond grows stronger.

In Jim Collins’ book Good to Great, in the Chapter titled “First Who Then What”, he places specific emphasis on having the right team first, before deciding on what to do. He says “If you have the right people on your team, the problem of how to manage and motivate people largely goes away”, this has proved true for WTS. Great ideas are a dime a dozen, WTS could have been one of those great ideas that had a stillbirth because there was no team to push it to greatness. However, WTS has shown that as long as the team is great, no matter the idea, success is guaranteed.

WTS is 2
WTS is 2

The idea of what WTS is, has undergone several changes, but it is first and foremost a community of people passionate about music, now the form that takes may differ from time to time. Any artiste worth his salt who is trying to break into the music scene in Nigeria knows that he has to be a part of the community. This isn’t just a community of musicians, it is a body of creatives. There are producers, sound engineers, DJs, art directors, graphic designers, photographers, managers, all round a team of young brilliant minds ready to take over the world.

Musomania; A short story

Artists from WTS have gone on to participate in music competitions, The Hennessy VS Class 2017 is an example of one of such, which Vader a shining star from WTS went ahead to win. Other members of WTS are part of the ongoing 2018 Hennessy VS Class competition and success is guaranteed.

The thing about the team is this, while it is open to just about anyone to join, it demands excellence from its members. Before content is pushed, it is critiqued, scrutinized, torn apart and put back together, the Team is their own harshest critique and this has spurred members to be fearless to achieve the best.

Over the course of barely 2 years, WTS has been able to boast of brilliant projects from its members and as a team, it has come together to create magic. WTS, earlier this year, released LOFN: the playlist, a collection of love songs to celebrate the Valentine’s season. The Project is a testament to the diversity that WTS has to offer. It is also evidence of the talent and passion that exists among the team.

LOFN: the playlist

On Melancholy Days — Soul

Ariwo Eko — Mobolaji Mobelieve

Half Price — Alpha

Wifi and a Dream — Timzil

Eri Ife the EP — Eri Ife

YLLW — Eri Ife and Remy Baggins

Rice — The Black Esper.

And numerous singles.

WTS, the team, WTS, the dream. If you’re looking for the people that will determine the future of the music industry in Nigeria, look no further than WTS. The team is slowly gaining traction with the mainstream music industry in Nigeria, with names of artists on the team now on the lips of giants in the industry, songs from artists receiving air plays, artists going on air to discuss their art, collaborating with companies for advert purposes and small shows already selling out.

The future is theirs for the taking and they will take it.
